More About Cé
Cé Simonis is a Belgian and Scottish author illustrator who currently lives in the woods of the south of Belgium with partner C.A. Hiley. Together they run the risograph studio riso des bois.
Cé studied illustration at the Académie Royale des Beaux Arts in Liège and the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Saint Luc Liège in Belgium and Accademia di Belle Arti di Perugia, Italy. They completed teacher training in Belgium. and trained as a printmaker in Edinburgh, where they also taught in various institutions including Edinburgh College of Art and the National Museum of Scotland.
Cé's work has received several prizes and awards. Their graphic short story 'The Return' was shortlisted for the World Illustration Awards 2021 and their artist book ‘My Brass Band’ was highly commended the 2022 edition. Cé was artist in residence in Oksnes in the Vesteraalen archipelago in Norway with AiRV in 2022, and at Inspace (Edinburgh) in 2020 and Planet Labs (Berlin) in 2021 for art+science residencies.
Cé loves making their own books on the riso machine - expecially graphic poetry and short illustrated stories. They also like working with gouache and writing longer poetic-epics.
When not drawing, Cé loves walking in the forest, swimming and making up silly songs.
